<h6><b>&#8220;So tablets, PCs and mobile phones change our brains&#8221;: </b><br />
<b>The French oncologist&#8217;s warning about electromagnetic waves: &#8220;They lower children&#8217;s IQ and also harm adults&#8221;.</b><br />

<p>Paris: There is an archive, the largest in the world, maintained by an eminent (and controversial) French doctor considered a luminary but also viewed with some suspicion by the transalpine scientific community. In those files, facts and data on the damage caused by electromagnetic waves have been compiled.</p>
<p>He is Dominique Belpomme, 76, professor of oncology at the University Paris-Descartes, who took responsibility for a summary. Result: red code, serious danger, especially if we will be under the mantle of 5G. This is not a joke. Belpomme is famous for having published a very disturbing review on electrosensitivity three years ago and, thanks to him, France has recognized for the first time on a national basis a case of disability due to sensitivity to electromagnetic waves. The effects on the brain, which he considers not to be well understood by the public, can reduce the learning abilities of children and adolescents and even reduce their IQ. And if no action is taken, the consequences could be catastrophic.</p>
<p><b>80 per cent of children aged 3 to 6 can use tablets and mobile phones.</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>A very serious problem, partly because their nervous system is developing, partly because physically, the circumference of the skull is smaller and therefore is penetrated more deeply than that of an adult. A phone call of just two minutes can alter the natural activity of a child&#8217;s brain up to an hour after the phone call because the waves penetrate deep into the brain. I&#8217;ve seen newborns crying continuously in the presence of Wi-Fi because the electromagnetic waves caused them severe headaches</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Should precautions be taken even during pregnancy?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>For the sake of the unborn child, the mother should use the computer only when it is connected via cable and should use the mobile phone as little as possible, because the radiation is very toxic for the child. Pregnant women who use their mobile phone a lot increase by 54% the risk of hyperactivity and emotional difficulties appearing in the unborn child. But the biggest risk is that diabetes, thyroid disease, cancer and other cellular abnormalities may develop and occur later in adults</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>What are the main symptoms that occur in children who are overexposed?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>Insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, behavioral disorders such as irritability, attention deficit, especially at school. Unfortunately, these behaviors tend to be considered of psychological origin, but much more often than you think the cause is prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields. Dyslexia and dysgraphia can also be a consequence of this overexposure</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Are these effects irreversible?</b></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Yes, if you don&#8217;t run for cover when you get the first symptoms.  Instead of boasting about their children&#8217;s technological abilities, parents should be very careful about letting their children use mobile phones and tablets. A 14-year-old patient of mine, after sleeping for four or five years with his cell phone on his pillow near his ear, was affected by symptoms that were the same as those of Alzheimer&#8217;s: he had lost his sense of direction and in order to move, had to hold his mother&#8217;s hand, behaviors that are not normal at that age and that were certainly caused by the presence of the cell phone near the head during sleep</em>&#8220;.</p>
<p><b>Are there any warning symptoms for adults?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>At first, you may feel warmth in your ear when using your mobile phone for too long. There may also be a tingling sensation in the hand which is holding the phone or in the most commonly used hand on the computer keyboard. If no action is taken when these first signs appear, much more serious symptoms such as tinnitus, tingling all over the body and dizziness, sometimes accompanied by loss of balance, will appear very quickly, symptoms that announce the arrival of a serious disease and to which can be added in a short time cognitive disorders such as memory loss, attention problems, loss of remembering</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Do your studies confirm that the increase in chemical intolerances is related to electrosensitivity?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>People who have an intolerance to electromagnetic radiation can more easily become sensitive to all other chemicals. The two intolerances go hand in hand. Conversely, a sensitivity to chemicals may evolve into a hypersensitivity to electromagnetic waves</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Are the opinions of the international scientific literature sometimes conflicting?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>I believe this is due to the interference of lobbies which do not allow us to tell the truth about the damage caused by wireless technology. Six thousand scientific articles have been published worldwide demonstrating the toxicity of electromagnetic radiation. There is irrefutable evidence of the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the human body, plants and animals, as demonstrated by studies around the world. In Russia, scholars in this field have already shown many years ago that during the Second World War the prolonged use of radio devices in the Steppe caused memory loss, attention deficits and lack of concentration in the military. The discovery of the toxicity of electromagnetic radiation is therefore not new. The novelty is that the increase in wireless electronic devices is subjecting us more and more to the frequencies of electromagnetic waves, a volume that our body has never experienced in the past, so it cannot adapt to them so quickly</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Is there a cure?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>Electromagnetic waves alter the vascularization of the thalamus, causing loss of balance and tingling. The only food remedy that has been tried to date is the use of fermented papaya known as Immun&#8217;Age. The same one used by John Paul II in 2002. In my patients who have undergone treatment with fermented papaya, brain vascularization has been restored. Wojtyla improved because it had a great benefit on the vascularization damaged by Parkinson&#8217;s disease</em> .&#8221;</p>
<p><b>Are there any other precautions to take?</b></p>
<p>&#8220;<em>For example, limit cordless and mobile phone use to 20 minutes per day with calls not exceeding 6 minutes each. When you are at home or at the office and need to use your computer (no more than seven hours a day), it is advisable to choose a cable connection. It is also essential to ensure that your home has a grounding system, turn off electrical appliances when not in use, including wireless ones, eliminate energy-saving bulbs, because they can cause dangerous electromagnetic radiation, replacing them with incandescent bulbs or LED filaments. Never charge your phone on the bedside table at night and remember to switch off the modem. Ah, and contrary to what is believed, you should try to use headphones as little as possible: they act as an antenna and worsen the situation, especially the Bluetooth ones</em>&#8220;.</p>

<p>A total of 32 electrohypersensitivity (EHS) self‑reporting patients were serially included in the present prospective study for oxidative stress and antioxidative stress response assessment. All thiobarbituric acid‑reactive substances (TBARs) were measured in the plasma, particularly malondialdehyde (MDA) for lipid peroxidation; additional measurements included total thiol group molecules, reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glutathione (GSSG) for oxidative stress assessment and nitrotyrosine, a marker of peroxynitrite‑induced oxidative/nitrosative stress. In addition, the activity of Cu‑Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) was measured in red blood cells (RBCs) and glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in RBCs and plasma. Depending of the biomarker considered, 30‑50% of EHS self‑reporting patients presented statistically significantly increased TBARs, MDA, GSSG and NTT mean plasmatic level values in comparison with normal values obtained in healthy controls (P&lt;0.0001). By contrast, there were no plasmatic level values above the upper normal limits for GSH, GSH/GSSG ratio, total glutathione (GluT) and GSH/GluT ratio, and values for these GSH‑associated biomarkers were statistically significantly decreased in 20‑40% of the patients (P&lt;0.0001). Furthermore, in RBCs, mean SOD1 and GPx activities were observed to be statistically significantly increased in ~60% and 19% (P&lt;0.0001) of the patients, respectively, while increased GR activity in RBCs was observed in only 6% of the patients. The present study reports for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, that overall ~80% of EHS self‑reporting patients present with one, two or three detectable oxidative stress biomarkers in their peripheral blood, meaning that these patients‑as is the case for cancer, Alzheimer&#8217;s disease or other pathological conditions‑present with a true objective new pathological disorder.</p>

<p>The first author of the study is Prof. Belpomme. This paper is a build on from his previous paper.</p>
<p>The paper <a href="https://www.emfsa.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Oxidative-stress-in-electrohypersensitivity-self‑reporting-patients1.pdf">Oxidative stress in electrohypersensitivity self‑reporting patients(1)</a> is extremely detailed and comprehensive. It is done to a standard that is easily replicable and how-to for other scientists that wish to replicate it.</p>
<p>The study is backed up from previous biomarker tests and the physics supports the explanation.</p>
<p>Because Belpomme&#8217;s previous work had such a large population study already, in this study, it was not needed to have a large sample because statistical significant values were easily attainable.</p>

<p><strong>Included in the work of the committee: opportunities and resources for Electrohypersensitives and activists:</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: revert; color: initial;">-Anyone suffering from <strong>Electrohypersensitivity</strong> can request their physician to contact the committee on their behalf for assistance. In previous years this was not possible, but due to the formation of the committee in 2021 this resource now exists.</span></p>
<p>-Creating EMF Safety Standards for South Africa via multiple court applications.</p>
<p>3G, 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi etc. :  Past cell towers, current and future applications are all included under this umbrella, as well as energy transmission.</p>
<p>Again, anyone who believes they have been harmed by previous exposures can partake in the process of creating EMF Safety Standards for South Africa.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Attempts to dismiss/devalue the work of the committee, or to deliberately ignore it, suggest a lack of understanding of its purpose. This has not got the best interests of the South African or global public at heart. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is up to every country to decide how it addresses the EMF issue. South Africa is now doing exactly that.</p>

<p>We found the prevalence rate of IEI-EMF has been declining, instead of increasing as predicted previously. Women are more likely to report having IEI-EMF than men. Further studies to explore the causes leading to the declines may help the public, scientific community, and government deal with idiopathic intolerance to other environmental exposures.</p>
<h5>Comments by James C. Lech</h5>
<ol>
<li>The results are skewed and open to weakness based on the methodology and limited scope.</li>
<li>The way the questions are explained are different to historical questions.</li>
<li>Questionnaires can also be problematic because they are subject to bias. In addition there are no dosimetery or biomarker tests conducted to correlate the data in the study. Studies that include all three demonstrate better results.</li>
<li>The rate of decline is also subject to social currency parameters. Wireless devices are now needed for people&#8217;s consumerism requirements. Gaming consoles, banking, social networks, etc. If you provide information that jeopordises their way of life, the first social instinct is to deny it as they are not aware of any other form. This is why there are psychiatric DSM studies that look at the addiction element.</li>
<li>The words  &#8216;sensitivity or allergy&#8217; are used, which many people may confuse with the word allergy. Also in Chinese culture most studies trying to map any form of disability are compromised by the cultural factor that the society does not accept and shun&#8217;s disabled persons. Therefore, again, the study requires biomarker tests.</li>
<li>The results collected are technically correct, but these results are flawed because of the flawed details of the methodology.</li>
</ol>
<h5>Weaknesses and misleading results of the study are as follows:</h5>

<li>IEI-EMF. It is not the official designation by the WHO but rather the designation by a sub-domain of the WHO. From my thesis, (see below) it is not technically correct to label one scientifically or medically as EHS. From a scientific-technical-analysis, a biological system is broken up into three states:
<ol>
<li>Sensitive: the degree to which a system will respond to a change in the pollutant variable condition, including the extent of change in ecosystem composition, structure and functioning.</li>
<li>Adaptability: the degree to which adjustments are possible in practices, processes, or structures of systems to projected or actual changes of climate. Adaptation can be spontaneous or planned and can be carried out in response to, or in anticipation of changes.</li>
<li>Vulnerability: the extent to which pollutant emmissions change may damage or harm a system. This depends on a system’s sensitivity and ability to adapt to new environmental conditions.</li>
<li>First, everyone is electrosensitive, this is fact, however, everyone has different adaptability compensatory mechanisms to EMF radiation as a pollutant emission. It is when the adaptability begins to fail that the person or biology enters into a state of vulnerability to which damage and harm occurrs.</li>
<li>I found Prof. Belpomme to provide the best and accurate medical description for a state of vulnerability of  the Electromagnetic Field Intolerance Syndrome (EMFIS), a condition that has been recognized by the State and conferred in the High Court of Cape Town. Medically, using the term EMFIS, it is more effective at describing the relevant ICD-10 codes, and investigation of different symptoms because a syndrome is a compilation of multiple issues, and different persons will demonstrate different degrees of vulnerability to different sources for biological and non-linear reasons.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>The mechanism of the questions has not evolved to the updated phenomenon of the incidence of technological systems in social systems in modern society.</li>
<li>Many recent studies have demonstrated an actual increase of incidences of intolerance to EMF radiation exposure and not a decrease as described in the study.</li>
<li>The study does not take into account influence by community values as a result of the occurrence of the shifting baseline syndrome, which, in turn, may offset tracking a model forecast for adaptability.
<ol>
<li>A shifting baseline (also known as sliding baseline) is a type of change to how a system is measured, usually against previous reference points (baselines), which themselves may represent significant changes from an even earlier state of the system.</li>
<li>Historically, the proliferation of EMF emissions and sources were minimal in comparison to today. In the past persons may have complained about symptoms because they were only occurring when in proximity to exposure.</li>
<li>With the ubiquitousness of EMF devices, the allergy stimuli is constant, meaning that the person is  unable to properly discern between an alternative. For example, a bad smell in the air, at first it is noticeable, but if it continues for days, the body adapts and compensates to think that it is ambient.</li>
<li>Regarding EMF sensitivity: different population categories have different levels of sensitivity. Of those, an even much smaller level has &#8220;sense-sitivity&#8221;, the ability to sense EMF. The majority that do not &#8220;sense&#8221; but are still sensitive would then demonstrate a syndrome of symptoms and diseases.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li>Social currency and cultural factors: society today is constructed as an information structure dependant on wireless technology for essential purposes, for example, banking, municpal services etc. The most prevalent and powerful is social currency. Consumerism requires the latest phone, Xbox or Playstation, social media, the biggest TV etc&#8230; in order to maintain a social standing. The study did not account for this skew in the data recorded. Persons bound by social currency, would then rather lie about a reaction to the EMF radiation, because to do so would result in them having to reduce their use of the technology, causing their excommunication with their societal networks. This is why there are psychiatric DSM studies that look at the addiction element with devices that are designed to leverage on addiction through Game Theory in order to enable interaction for prolonged periods of time.</li>
<li>In Chinese culture most studies trying to map any form of disability is compromised by the cultural factor that the society does not accept and shuns disabled persons. Therefore, again the study requires biomarker tests.</li>
<li>Most EMF related studies that lack detailed dosimetry, biomarker or bioset data are inherently weaker. This is mainly because of the complexity of the EMF domain and the shifting baseline syndrome issue.</li>
</ol>

<p>We encourage practicing physicians to evaluate carefully any concerns a patient may have about whether presenting symptoms are being caused by EMF exposures (and/or other environmental issues).  In particular, a physician is in a unique position to educate and support a patient to use a blinded approach—not unlike that employed by Bruntland and Eberle—in determining if they are truly reacting to some kind of EMF.</p>
<p>We recommend the following articles to physicians who encounter patients who might be electrosensitive:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong><u>EUROPAEM EMF Guideline 2016 (35)</u></strong>:  A comprehensive review for evaluating a person with possible EHS, which includes sections on history, exam, labs, measurement of EMF exposure, prevention or reduction of EMF exposure, diagnosis, and treatment.</li>
<li><strong><u>Eberle’s physician recommendations (36)</u></strong>: Another outline of how to approach the care of a person with suspected EHS, compatible with the Austrian guidelines.</li>
<li><strong><u>Genuis and Lipp’s review article (37)</u></strong>:  They, too, offer both an overview of EHS and an approach to the management of the condition.</li>
<li><strong><u>Belpomme’s article(38)</u></strong>: Potentially useful for directing which biomarkers might be measured.</li>
<li><strong><u>Eberle’s second article, “An Underworld Journey” (39)</u></strong>:  Helpful for understanding the profound psychological sequelae that may result from this biophysical sensitivity.<br />
<h6><strong>Summary Recommendations Derived from These Five Sources</strong></h6>
<ul>
<li><strong>Take the patient’s symptoms seriously</strong>: This alone will have a positive impact on the patient’s care.</li>
<li><strong>Take a full history and physical:</strong>  The history should include identifying all suspected symptoms, variations of health problems depending on time and location, an assessment of EMF exposures, and an evaluation for other possible environmental sensitivities.  The Austrian guidelines note that there are no specific findings on physical exam to confirm or deny a suspected case of EHS.</li>
<li><strong>Consider tests as indicated:  </strong></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li style="list-style-type: none;">
<ul>
<li>Pursue an appropriate non-EHS work-up as indicated by a patient’s symptoms.</li>
<li>The Austrian guidelines outline a comprehensive approach to a lab work-up for someone who may have EHS.</li>
<li>The Havas study suggests a possible diagnostic provocation study for those reporting sensitivity to radio-frequency EMF.</li>
<li>The Belpomme article suggests EHS biomarkers that might be worthy of measurement (e.g. checking serum histamine levels may help direct the therapeutic use of antihistamines).</li>
<li>Genuis and Lipp reference work that suggests an elevated prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and liver disease occurs in people with EHS.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Recommend a diagnostic “EMF vacation”.  </strong>This is most easily achieved by camping in a remote natural setting, with the support of a radio-frequency meter to confirm the environment is clear.  If symptoms improve dramatically during the “vacation”, only to return soon after coming home, then an environmental cause is possible.  Further investigation will then be needed to determine what in the environment may be a trigger for symptoms.</li>
<li><strong>Have the patient keep a detailed symptom diary:</strong>  This is essential for helping to tease out if EMF exposures are the cause of a person’s symptoms.</li>
<li><strong>If indicated, encourage the patient to have EMF levels evaluated at home and/or work.  </strong>Some will choose to do this themselves by ordering the necessary meters (measurements should be done for electric fields, magnetic fields, “dirty electricity” and radio-frequency radiation).  Given the complexity of the issue, however, getting EMF consultation from a reliable expert may be the preferred approach.  See the Austrian guidelines for specific recommendations about this kind of testing.</li>
<li><strong>Use a physician’s understanding of blinded studies to help the person design exposure experiments.  </strong>As with the physician case histories described above, this will help identify triggers and then direct potentially beneficial interventions.  Meter(s) measuring the type(s) of EMF being tested will be essential to insure the quality of this self-study.</li>
<li><strong>Encourage the person to avoid excess EMF exposure.  </strong>Here are simple, first-pass changes to consider: 1. minimize use of cellphones and cordless phones and turn them to airplane mode at night and when not in use; 2. use a wired internet connection and keep the computer in airplane mode when possible; 3. keep the internet router far from the bedroom and/or turn it off when not in use; 4. avoid the use of microwave ovens; and 5. consider calling your utility company and having nearby “smart meters” turned off or shielded.  See the Austrian guidelines and/or the Genuis and Lipp article for a more detailed review of first-pass strategies.</li>
<li><strong>If indicated, consider a more radical approach to avoidance and shielding: </strong>For people with a severe form of EHS, the above first-pass changes may not be adequate.  Arranging EMF consultation, as mentioned above, may be critical in developing more advanced strategies.  For example, while EMF shielding can be hugely beneficial in creating a safe haven, it can also make an environment less safe if the shielding is not done properly.</li>
<li><strong>Encourage a healthy lifestyle.  </strong>This includes a quality diet and aerobic exercise (if not contraindicated) especially after a significant exposure.<strong>  </strong>In addition, sleep is especially important to highlight (as per Belpomme’s work, melatonin production is commonly altered and insomnia is often a problem).  Interventions to consider include (1) making the bedroom into a safe EMF haven is essential, (2) using melatonin supplementation, and (3) avoiding excess blue light exposure (e.g. computer and TV screens), which can delay the circadian rhythm and disrupt sleep.</li>
<li><strong>Support the patient’s exploration of complementary therapies.  </strong>In particular, <em>a functional medicine</em> evaluation may be useful.  The Austrian guidelines highlight that EMF exposure in electrosensitive people may cause a reduction of “oxidative and nitrosative regulation capacity” and thus they recommend “anti-oxidative and anti-nitrosative therapies including trace elements, vitamins and amino acids.”  The Genuis and Lipp article makes similar recommendations focused on the remediation of a person’s nutritional and biochemical status.</li>
<li><strong>Refer for counseling and/or recommend a support group as indicated.  </strong>See Eberle’s “Underworld Journey” article (39) for a harrowing account of what a person with severe EHS may encounter psychologically, beginning with overwhelm, fear and shame.  Don’t misinterpret these difficulties as being part of a psychosomatic illness.  On the contrary, they are <em>the sequelae</em> of the sensitivity, not <em>the cause</em>.  As profound as these psychological difficulties may be, they should be addressed in parallel with the physically-oriented approaches outlined above.</li>
<li><strong>Use existing diagnostic codes as indicated.</strong>  The EUROPAEM EMF Guideline 2016 recommends the following diagnostic codes from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), ICD-10-WHO 2015:
<ul>
<li> Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS): use existing codes for the different symptoms <strong>plus</strong> code R68.8 “Other specified general symptoms and signs” <strong>plus</strong> code Z58.4 “Exposure to radiation” and/or Z57.1 “Occupational exposure to radiation”.</li>
<li>EMF-related health problems (except EHS): use existing codes for the different diseases/symptoms <strong>plus</strong> code Z58.4 “Exposure to radiation”</li>

<p>The legal group formed within ARTAC on June 2, 2017, aimed to continue the discussion on the tabling of an amendment to the Rome Statute to make pollution a health crime at the International Criminal Court. In this regard, several topics were discussed: asbestos and its consequences on health (cancers); pesticides as endocrine disruptors; electromagnetic pollution. Note that Professor Stefania Negri (Italy) has joined us.</p>

<p>Antonino Abrami (Italian judge), Dominique Belpomme (President of ARTAC), Marie-Odile Bertella-Geffroy (former magistrate and lawyer at the TGI of Paris), Olivier Cachard (Professor of International Law at the University of Metz and lawyer), Christine Campagnac (project director at ARTAC), Anaïs Français (lawyer), Franck Laval (president of Ecologie Sans Frontières), Stefania Negri (see description above), Etienne Riondet (Attorney General of Paris), Michèle Rivasi (Member of the European Parliament), Kathleen Rueff (Founder of RightonCanada.ca, NGO specialized in the field of asbestos), Jean-Paul Teissonnière (Environmental Lawyer), Louise Vandelac (sociologist and professor at the University of Montreal).</p>
<p><b>Filing a complaint before the ICC Prosecutor</b></p>
<p>Several topics were mentioned as being the subject of a complaint: asbestos and its consequences on health (cancers), electromagnetic pollution resulting in the emergence of electrohypersensitivity, the deleterious effects of pesticides (cancers, hypofertility, congenital malformations, etc.) and finally, global warming and its health consequences. For the dossier to be &#8220;robust&#8221;, the scientific links between exposure factors and the resulting diseases must be clearly established. Such a complaint could be brought by an environmental NGO such as &#8220;Ecology Without Borders&#8221;, supported by a group of lawyers specializing in environmental law.</p>
<p><b>Asbestos case study as an example of a health crime&nbsp;</b></p>
<p>In order for the complaint to be admissible to the ICC, the crime must have been committed after July 1, 2002, and not be investigated or prosecuted under way nationally. Asbestos does not meet any of these two criteria. Maître Marie-Odile Bertella Geoffroy (lawyer), Maître Jean-Paul Teissonière (lawyer) and Maître Olivier Cachard (Professor of Law and Honorary Dean) are responsible for studying the admissibility criteria of the complaint as well as the nature of the individuals who can be prosecuted.</p>

<p>Dr. Belpomme, President of <a href="http://www.artac.info/">ARTAC</a> (Association for Research on Treatment Against Cancer) is asked by the interviewer about his creation nearly three years ago of the <a href="http://eceri-institute.org/">European Cancer and Environment Research Institute</a> (ECERI).  The Institute collaborates with 15-20 European teams researching the <strong>environmental causes</strong> of not only cancer but also other diseases and disorders, including Alzheimer&#8217;s and autism.</p>
<p>According to Dr. Dominique Belpomme, <strong>80-90% of cancers are linked to the environment.</strong> Living was not always “carcinogenic”. Cancer is a recent disease due to the fact that it has become a scourge of huge proportions. Cancer as well as obesity and type 2 diabetes have exploded. We are obliged to ask why. The answer is: <strong>life style and pollution:  chemical pollution, pesticides, electromagnetic fields (EMF) produced by wireless technology.</strong> Do we continue this technology for purely economic reasons or do we take into account the very high health costs that we will be paying as a result?<br />
<a name="more"></a><br />
Referring to the Canadian safety code, Dr. Belpomme mentions the scientific denial &#8211; for purely economic and financial reasons. There is no scientific controversy. High-level independent scientists all agree that there is a major risk from propagation of wireless technology: appearance of certain cancers (EMF are recognized as“potentially carcinogenic” by WHO) and <strong>the risk of Alzheimer’s in electrosensitive persons.</strong></p>
<p>In less than four years, Dr. Belpomme has questioned and examined clinically more than 1,000 electrohypersensitivity (EHS) – self reported patients. <strong>These are real sick persons who are in a pre-Alzheimer’s state.</strong> Canada’s safety code recognizes heating of tissues. What is the most conclusive scientific proof of biological effects? : animal experiments (psychological explanations for their afflictions cannot be attributed to animals) and <strong>biological tests of electrosensitive persons which indicate a pre-Alzheimer’s state.</strong> These tests include:</p>
<p>&#8211; Brain imagery showing vascular hypoperfusion in the area of the brain (the limbic system) where Alzheimer’s starts<br />
&#8211; 2-10 times higher levels of histamine in the blood.<br />
&#8211; Detection of other markers of the opening of the blood brain barrier.<br />
&#8211; Higher levels of auto-antibodies against O- myelin and / or stress proteins<br />
&#8211; Decrease in the production of melatonin in 24h urine</p>

<p>These indications are objective and show the same biological anomalies as found in animals exposed to EMF.</p>
<p>What can we do? Treat these sick persons with natural anti-inflammatory products and anti-histamine medications and anti-oxidants; correct the deficit in vitamins and oligo elements to avoid Alzheimer’s. The sick persons are partially reimbursed by the French system, but these medicines are not recognized as specifically for treating electrosensitive persons, only for their biological or clinical properties. More and more electrosensitive persons are being recognized as handicapped.</p>
<p>We must take daily measures to protect ourselves: never use a cell phone for more than 20 minutes a day, in sequences of 6-minute calls. Limit use of cell phones by children and adolescents. Ban cell phones before age 12. <strong>Pregnant women should use cell phones as little as possible to protect the very vulnerable fetus.</strong></p>
<p>Dr. Belpomme then talks about smart meters: better to call these “intelligent” meters, “dumb” meters. They add to the electrosmog. The interviewer says these emit 83 seconds a day. Dr. Belpomme replies that more than the dose, it is the repetition of the dose that makes the poison. Electrosensitive persons are also affected by artificial and solar light.</p>
<p>Today, risks from exposure to electromagnetic fields are recognized by the whole scientific community. The latest statistics from Europe indicate that 10% of the population suffers from this syndrome of intolerance to EMF and the numbers are growing. These people are totally handicapped in their lives. Statistics in peer-reviewed publications predict that in the next 50 years, from 25 to 50% of the population will be afflicted. Dr. David O. Carpenter in the United States says exactly the same.</p>
<p>The interviewer asks, how can you explain that the most renowned organizations contest the research, saying there is no scientific evidence or at best, weak evidence?. Dr. Belpomme replies by referring to the three <strong>BioInitiative Reports compiled by 30 of the top world experts. Out of over 3,000 articles published in the best international reviews, two-thirds say there is a health risk. He goes on to emphasize again the denial and financial interests which push the media to misinform the public.</strong></p>
<p>When asked about his own use of wireless technology, Dr. Belpomme says he uses a cell phone for only a few minutes a day – for emergency calls. There is no Wi-Fi in his offices, everything is wired.</p>

In my book too, I mention the American statistics, In the United States,5-10% of adolescents under 17 years have a reduction of 5-7 points of their IQ –the main cause is mobile technology. In France, a decrease  of 3,8% in IQ among the youth of our country.(because of mobile technology mainly) We are in a situation where we have a real public health problem – so the politicians should be interested.</p>
<p>What will the long term affects on social security be &#8211; because these people have a  have a serious condition, chronic,which will require ongoing assistance with Social Security which may not in the coming years cover 100% the care of those patients affected.. We are facing a real public health problem that is never analyzed in terms of health itself but in financial terms by politicians who govern us.<br />
We have to  address the public health problem, or better, in the interest of the general population, and our children and adolescents, in particular.</p>
<p>Now we come with an explosion of mobile phones (particular and) wide spread exposures of what we call electrosmog from EMF’s . i.e. a space  where there is no white zones that is exposed morning to night. Hence we have cancers, brain tumours, leukemias, I will describe but also Alzheimer’s Disease, now officially proven, and EHS, an emerging disease,a condition, increasingly common, having an incidence.EHS is increasing but is not recognized, unfortunately in perspective, with WHO but with prospects for progress in the coming weeks.<br />
The difficulty to properly expose the risks related to electro magnetic fields:<br />
It involves the fields of physics, biology and medicine and molecular biology. </p>
